Using infrared technology for image detection in dark environments is a common practice in CCTV projects.
Today, there are numerous camera models with nighttime image capture available at competitive prices. However, a high-quality surveillance project requires sophisticated equipment, which is why Axis developed the OptimizedIR technology.
OptimizedIR
The OptimizedIR technology was designed to optimize infrared monitoring for advanced cameras, such as those with PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) or varifocal lenses.
Cameras equipped with infrared specifications are known as day-and-night cameras. They commonly use intelligent infrared LEDs, where during the day the camera operates in its standard configuration capturing color images, and at night, the infrared module activates to capture grayscale images.
Axis cameras with infrared LEDs also feature an infrastructure to prevent overheating, ensuring the LEDs do not compromise the performance of the equipment.
IR or Thermal?
The use of IR and thermal cameras serves different purposes. While thermal cameras do not require any light source for detection, IR cameras use LEDs to capture images in dark environments. However, thermal cameras are primarily used for motion detection, whereas IR technology can detect individuals and objects in dark places (depending on environmental conditions).
