Time-lapse (free translation for “time-lapse”) is a cinematic technique and process where the video capture frame is used at a lower frequency to record over a long period of time and replay it in a short span. In other words, it is a type of monitoring done through video or photography that, when viewed at normal playback speed, shows the recording of a long period of time in a fast-paced manner to the human eye.
The time-lapse technique is an extreme form of slow-motion video manipulation.

Advantages
This type of monitoring is particularly advantageous for projects that span a long period of time for implementation and require (in summary) visualizing how the final product was developed over the extended duration.
A great example of time-lapse usage is in the construction industry. The use of time-lapse for this sector is quite popular; today, major construction companies monitor the construction process and present the complete content through time-lapse recording and editing.
How to Do It?
In essence, this technique can be replicated with any camera, but for professional use, high-performance cameras with memory card slots or PoE connectivity are required, as the environment will be recorded over a long period and will need ample storage space for the images.
Depending on the monitoring area, you’ll need to find the camera with the perfect specifications for your project type. You can learn how to do this through our free e-book, “Guide to CFTV Projects.” Combined with a VMS (video monitoring) software, it will be easy to create a time-lapse video.
Below, we’ve separated an article (in English) developed by Axis for creating time-lapse videos using their cameras along with the Windows Movie Maker software. The camera used was the P1346, which has been discontinued and replaced by the P1367 (for indoor environments) and P1367-E (for outdoor environments).
