Designing CCTV systems for outdoor, public environments with high user traffic requires certain procedures to ensure equipment can withstand various external events and guarantee reliable monitoring.
When purchasing an IP CCTV camera, many users look for information on the environment it was designed for—indoor or outdoor. However, being designed for outdoor use does not guarantee the equipment can resist strong movements or impacts.
Anti-Vandalism Technology
Recently, we defined anti-vandalism in another article, and essentially, a camera with this feature can provide greater reliability against impacts and natural elements.
Generally, cameras with an anti-vandalism certification have an IK09 or IK10 rating, meaning they undergo tests for blows, impact resistance, and weight support. In the case of Axis cameras—a well-known brand in the CCTV market for its high-quality equipment—the anti-vandalism models undergo rigorous testing often exceeding standard security classification requirements.
Image Stabilization
Even if equipment can withstand harsh conditions, this does not ensure effective monitoring. For example, an installation on a tall pole may experience wind gusts, causing image distortion during capture. To address this, technologies help stabilize images in adverse conditions.
Axis Electronic Image Stabilization
To support its monitoring equipment, Axis developed and implemented electronic image stabilization technology in its cameras. This technology reduces noise and adapts to vibrations caused by external events.
The video linked below demonstrates how this technology improves monitoring, simplifies installation, and reduces maintenance needs.
