Axis Communications has been updating its catalog with various products featuring the latest technologies in the market. As a result, product categories such as Access Control Readers and Fixed Cameras have received items with extraordinary management capabilities, in addition to quality in monitoring and identification.

Recently, the dome line was updated, introducing the new series of minidomes; discover the Axis M42 line.

Video Compression Standards

As defined in the following article, there are various video compression formats in the CCTV market. Generally, the most popular standard known is H.264, which is also referred to as MPEG-4 and is an updated version of the H.263 standard.

The H.264 standard has been adopted by various camera manufacturers since its launch in 2003 and has been responsible for achieving good data compression and reducing bitrate rates for network savings, all with a low processing rate.

The H.265 standard is the most recent version implemented for video compression; this standard contains various algorithms and performs intelligent compression by abstracting, for example, points with identical pixels.

Consequently, H.265 consumes a bit more processing power; however, compared to the previous technology, the level of savings is much greater. In the case of the M42 Camera Line, the equipment is hybrid and allows configuring the conversion type for both H.264 and H.265, all in conjunction with Axis's unique technology for compression assistance: Axis Zipstream.

Axis Zipstream, as defined in this article, can assist in reducing storage and transmission by up to 50% more than the compression standards without excessive processing consumption. Zipstream is a technology that comes standard and is included in most of Axis's new camera models, including the M42 line.

It is also important to reaffirm that it is possible to use Zipstream in conjunction with one of the compression standards, whether H.264 or H.265.

Technical Specifications

In addition to H.265 technology, the M42 minidome cameras feature anti-vandalism technology that makes it difficult for any type of impact or obstruction of the equipment.

The minidomes have a varifocal lens for remote zoom and focus, and Axis WDR, which improves visibility in difficult lighting conditions or extreme light.

Additionally, the M42 line has an HDMI output that allows the cameras to be easily integrated into various types of projects through connection with monitors. The cameras have a Full HD resolution of 3MP and are available in two versions.
