The partnership between SilliS and Axis has been yielding various results for some time now, and an example of this is the project for the implementation and expansion of Axis cameras at the second largest Marian sanctuary in the world, the National Sanctuary of Our Lady of Aparecida in São Paulo, Brazil.
Today, the site, which covers approximately 1.3 million square meters, has an integrated video monitoring solution by SilliS that utilizes the technology of the best Axis cameras and manages the images on a single platform from Milestone through the VMS XProtect Corporate.

Investment in quality security
The entire project began in 2012 with the first installation at the Rainha do Brasil Hotel, located 700 meters from the National Sanctuary. The following year, the project was expanded to include the Basilica and subsequently the entire complex.
Currently, the Sanctuary, which receives about 12 million devotees per year, has a video monitoring system in the Memorial of Devotion to Our Lady of Aparecida, along the Rosary Path, and in the visitor circuit to the Basilica's dome, totaling 399 surveillance cameras.
To unify the system and optimize the flow of information sent to the monitoring center, SilliS implemented Milestone XProtect Corporate, a more robust platform that not only saves bandwidth on-site but also allows for unique and customized integrations with Axis equipment.
Multi-purpose cameras: from the Basilica to the TV network
In addition to in-person masses, there are also those that are broadcast live on the internet for the programming of TV Aparecida, portal, and app.
With this in mind, SilliS recommended the AXIS Streaming Assistant (ASA) to integrate compatible camera models with the video and audio streaming application. The application also allows for easy integration with streaming systems like Skype, Adobe Flash Media Live, and various others.
When integrated with the Zipstream functionality, the ASA allows for audio and video data to be sent with a minimized bit rate. In other words, in addition to enabling other functionalities, it is possible to save data transmission on a network and improve audio and video streaming.
To work in conjunction with the AXIS Streaming Assistant, five cameras from the P13 line were installed due to their ability to use 50mm lenses to transmit 6 live channels.
Safe space with continuous monitoring
The assurance that everything is functioning well and that visitors are enjoying their stay in the city, which has become a tourist hub in the Vale do Paraíba, comes from a specific location: the monitoring center of the Sanctuary. There, a group of people works to monitor the images generated by the hundreds of cameras spread throughout the site.
This work is complemented by another center located within the Rainha Hotel, with uninterrupted monitoring - 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A 500 TB storage system is used to store the images, and Milestone Corporate is programmed to work with 40 different models of Axis cameras. It is responsible for managing the images coming from all these locations.
During the pandemic, with the need for biosafety protocols and limited mass capacity, technology assisted in verifying the correct use of PPE and also helped the teams coordinating social distancing among people.
“The ability to have fully integrated IP technology equipment greatly facilitates daily tasks, such as remote maintenance, system integration, multi-platform work, and convergence to a single channel. With the joint work of Axis and Milestone in the monitoring center, we can easily detect all kinds of problems and have coordinated response capabilities. The unification of systems on a single platform was what was missing to make the partnership perfect. We are very satisfied,” concludes Luisa Vieira, responsible for IT at the Sanctuary.
